The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, has called for the enhancement of youth engagement in efforts to achieve sustainable development and global justice.
In a message on the occasion of International Youth Day, observed on August 12, Guterres emphasized that young people represent an innovative force and key partners in building a more inclusive, peaceful, and sustainable future.
He acknowledged the contributions of youth in driving sustainable development, fostering cohesive communities, and working towards a greener and more equitable future, urging everyone to support youth-led initiatives and solutions.
Guterres also stressed that this year’s theme for International Youth Day, “Youth Action at the Local Level to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and Beyond,” highlights the vital role that youth play in local communities around the world, noting that global progress begins within these communities.
