The Moroccan national team of local players has strengthened its prominent position on the African stage after winning the 2024 African Nations Championship, becoming the most celebrated team in the tournament’s history with three titles (2018 – 2020 – 2024).
This new achievement reflects the continued rise of Moroccan football in recent years, resulting from significant foundational and institutional efforts, particularly through the Mohammed VI Football Academy, which has emerged as one of the leading football academies worldwide. Additionally, the ongoing support provided by King Mohammed VI for sports has positioned Morocco among the leading nations both regionally and internationally.
The “Atlas Lions” of the local team have confirmed an impressive pattern: every title achieved by Morocco has been accompanied by one of its players being crowned as the tournament’s top scorer. In the 2018 edition, Ayoub El Kaabi excelled with nine goals, followed by Soufiane Rahimi in the 2020 edition with five goals, before Osama El Malioui reaffirmed this trend in 2024 with six goals.
The team has also earned the title of the “Unbeaten Team,” as it has not lost any of the three finals it has participated in, confirming its resilience and ability to clinch major matches.
This success is inseparable from the ongoing institutional work led by Fawzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, who has contributed to the development of the national infrastructure and the enhancement of training and professionalism, enabling Morocco to shine both regionally and globally.
With this achievement, it is not just about solidifying the dominance of the Moroccan local team in the championship, but it also emphasizes that the current successes are the result of a long-term project that Morocco has laid the groundwork for years ago, making sports a platform for brilliance on both the continental and global levels.
