The Sidi Kassem Court sentenced a young man active on Facebook to six months of imprisonment and a fine, after he was prosecuted by the public prosecutor on charges that include impersonating a journalist, threatening to commit a crime, spreading false allegations with the intent to defame, and producing documents containing untrue facts.

Details of the case, numbered 190/2103/2025, reveal that the defendant had previously served a prison sentence for similar cases related to defamation and threats, and upon his release from the سوق الأربعاء الغرب prison, returned to engaging in similar activities through live broadcasts on social media, falsely claiming to be a journalist.

According to available information, the accused had previously issued threats of bodily harm to a trainee journalist, and continued to defame a local parliamentarian.

Informed sources confirmed that the complainants decided to appeal the primary ruling, while some raised questions about the impartiality of local authorities in dealing with various political actors, calling for an end to the exploitation of impersonating journalists in electoral disputes or for local political purposes.
