The government approves a package of reforms including education, finance, and agriculture
The government council, chaired by Aziz Akhannouch, approved a set of draft laws and decrees on Thursday, covering higher education, national education, finance, and agriculture, as well as a new international agreement.
A statement from the Prime Minister’s office indicated that the council approved draft law No. 59.24 related to higher education and scientific research, presented by the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, Aziz Benmida, in line with the provisions of framework law No. 51.17, aimed at enhancing the role of universities in building competencies and supporting national development.
The council also approved draft decree No. 2.25.539 which increases the compensation for additional hours granted to teaching staff and raises the permissible weekly class hours, in a bid to encourage educational staff and help reduce school dropouts.
In the financial sector, the council endorsed draft decree No. 2.24.1123 pertaining to amending the decree establishing the “Solidarity Tax for Catastrophic Events” for the benefit of the designated fund, in accordance with the provisions of law No. 110.14 related to covering the consequences of natural disasters.
Additionally, the council approved draft decree No. 2.25.720 temporarily suspending the import tax on livestock to support the domestic market supply of red meat and contribute to the rebuilding of the national herd.
Furthermore, the council reviewed and approved draft law No. 33.25 related to the headquarters agreement between Morocco and the African Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI), which stipulates the establishment of the permanent headquarters of this organization in Rabat.
