Death Toll from Floods in Pakistan Rises to 657
The National Disaster Management Authority in Pakistan announced on Monday that the death toll from floods and landslides across the country has risen to 657, with 929 injuries reported since the onset of the monsoon season on June 26.
The authority stated that it is working closely with regional authorities to expedite relief and rescue efforts in the most affected areas.
It noted that the fatalities were due to widespread seasonal rainfall and sudden floods, which have impacted multiple regions.
Pakistani authorities have warned that the challenges may be in their early stages, with forecasts predicting continued rainfall over the next two weeks along with rising temperatures, raising concerns about the spread of bacteria and epidemics.
