Morocco Continues Its Legal Battle in Germany to Defend Its Reputation Against “Pegasus” Allegations

Morocco continues its legal battle in Germany to defend its reputation against accusations related to the Israeli spyware “Pegasus.”

The case, which entered a new phase, sees the kingdom determined to uphold its image in response to what it considers unfounded allegations. The Federal Court in Karlsruhe is set to hold a crucial session on November 11 to review Morocco’s appeal against previous rulings from Hamburg courts that dismissed its lawsuits on the grounds that the “right to personal protection” does not apply to foreign states.

This issue stems from reports published by German and European newspapers, including Süddeutsche Zeitung and Zeit Online, which accused Morocco without providing technical or legal evidence to substantiate the claims. This prompted Morocco to take legal action, asserting that these publications undermine its sovereignty and damage its relationships with international partners.

Observers believe that Morocco’s insistence on pursuing this case before the highest German judicial authority reflects a clear desire to establish the principle of media accountability for the accuracy of published information and to reject targeting countries through reports lacking substantive evidence. The forthcoming ruling is expected to be a turning point, not only in Morocco’s relationship with the European press but also in defining the balance between freedom of expression and the right of nations to protect their reputation.
