Morocco Accelerates Completion of High-Speed Train Line Between Kenitra and Marrakech
The dream of connecting Casablanca to Marrakech via a high-speed train is no longer a distant goal; it has transformed into a rapidly advancing project racing against time. The new line, extending over 430 kilometers from Kenitra to Marrakech, promises to cover the distance between the two biggest tourist cities in less than 90 minutes, down from the previous duration of over three hours.
The National Office of Railways has announced the completion of the first supporting structure for the Oued Hassar bridge in Mediouna, near Casablanca, as one of the project’s key engineering milestones. The works are being carried out by URBAGEC, a company specializing in civil engineering, as part of the TOARC3 package, which includes site preparation, structure construction, and the installation of safety and communication systems to ensure trains can operate at high speeds.
King Mohammed VI officially launched this major project on April 24 at the Rabat-Agdal station, as part of a vision aimed at modernizing the national transportation system and connecting major cities with a contemporary network that meets international standards.
In addition to the Oued Hassar bridge, the works also cover the construction of both overhead and underground bridges to facilitate traffic flow and agricultural access, soil stabilization along the route, as well as the installation of protective fences and essential infrastructure networks, which will enhance the project’s resilience and sustainability.
This massive investment transcends local dimensions, as it enhances Morocco’s readiness to host the 2030 World Cup and bolsters its position as a logistical and tourist gateway in the region, reflecting the kingdom’s commitment to infrastructure as a driver of development and openness.
