Residents of Laval, Canada, Celebrate the Raising of the National Flag
On Friday, the Canadian city of Laval witnessed an emotional symbolic moment with the raising of the Moroccan flag in the city’s municipal square, attended by officials and members of the Moroccan community residing in Canada.
This official ceremony was organized in the presence of Nour El-Din Eid Al-Houss, the Deputy Consul General of the Kingdom of Morocco in Montreal, representing Consul General Souraya Jbari, along with the city’s mayor, Stéphane Boyer, several city council members, and figures from civil society.
This initiative has been organized for the fifth consecutive year by community activist Abdelkbir Belbassir, starting in 2020 during the pandemic, later expanding to include other Canadian cities, with participation from notable individuals in the community, including Rachid Najhi, Abdelhak Sari, and Fouzi Mattouki.
In his speech on the occasion, the mayor of Laval praised the dynamism of the Moroccan community living in the city, highlighting its contribution to local development and its active engagement in various aspects of public life. He also emphasized the significant presence of Moroccans in Laval across economic, cultural, and social fields.
For her part, Aline Dibe, a municipal councillor from Saint-Martin, expressed her admiration for Morocco’s development trajectory, confirming that the Moroccan community represents one of the most organized and influential communities in Laval.
The Moroccan Deputy Consul delivered a message from the consul general affirming that many Moroccan cities are ready to launch twin city projects and collaborate with Laval and other Canadian cities, aimed at strengthening partnerships and exchanges between the two countries.
The celebration coincided with the illumination of Niagara Falls, the CN Tower in Toronto, and the Edmonton Bridge in the colors of the Moroccan flag, reinforcing the national and symbolic character of this annual event.
