Global Food Prices Surge Due to Meat and Oil Costs in July 2025
Basic food commodity prices worldwide surged in July 2025 to levels not seen for more than two years, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). In a statement released this Friday, the organization highlighted that this increase is primarily attributed to rising meat and vegetable oil prices.
The statement noted that gains in meat and oils outweighed the declines observed in grains, dairy products, and sugar, resulting in an overall price increase.
Furthermore, the same source indicated that the FAO Food Price Index, which measures monthly changes in prices of a basket of essential items, reached 130.1 points in July. This figure signifies a 1.6% increase compared to June.
