The Spanish National Police announced on Sunday that they arrested two individuals, aged 24 and 26, last Thursday in the town of Falguera de Palaguera in the Lleida province of Catalonia, on suspicion of connections to jihadist terrorism. This operation was carried out in coordination with Morocco’s General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance.
According to an official statement reported by Europa Press, investigations initiated by security agencies a year and a half ago led to the identification of the suspects’ activities. The police noted that one of them was already on the radar of Spanish security services due to “a high level of extremism,” having played a key role in disseminating jihadist propaganda and promoting extremist content online.
The same source added that the suspect was also involved in “recruiting potential individuals” to prepare for terrorist operations, highlighting that this security operation is part of the joint efforts between Morocco and Spain to combat terrorism threats and protect the security of both countries.
This operation comes amid close security cooperation between Rabat and Madrid, which has previously enabled the dismantling of dangerous extremist networks that investigations confirmed were targeting the stability and security of the region.
