Hyundai Rotem Confirms Interest in Morocco’s Railway Plan 2040, Calling the Kingdom a “Long-Term Strategic Destination”

In a recent statement, the South Korean company “Hyundai Rotem” expressed significant interest in Morocco’s Railway Plan 2040, a comprehensive national strategy aimed at enhancing the rail transport network and connecting more Moroccan cities with a modern, fast, and sustainable rail system.

Jung-Hoon Kim, head of realistic solutions at the group, praised Morocco’s investment climate, describing it as “a primary destination for foreign industrial investments.” He noted that “Hyundai Rotem” has been monitoring the Moroccan market for over a decade, impressed by the progress made in infrastructure and the kingdom’s resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kim emphasized that Morocco represents “a long-term strategic market” for the company, pointing out the alignment of Morocco’s vision for sustainable development with the ambitions of the South Korean industrial group.

“Hyundai Rotem” is already active in Morocco’s railway sector, having signed a contract in February with the National Office of Railways to supply the country with double-decker electric trains capable of speeds reaching 160 kilometers per hour. This initiative aims to connect 40 Moroccan cities and enhance regional and national mobility.

Commenting on the 2040 plan, Kim described this vision as “ambitious,” expressing “Hyundai Rotem’s” commitment to fully engage in it. He stated, “We view it as a model for win-win cooperation that we aspire to sustain.”

This stance comes as Morocco engages in developing a comprehensive, low-carbon, and technologically advanced transport system, placing international partnerships at the heart of its future strategy.
