Local residents in Casablanca have called on authorities to prohibit swimming at “El Mon” beach, located near the Hassan II Mosque, following the recent rescue of two people from drowning. These individuals were close to losing their lives this week before being saved at the last moment by citizens present at the scene.

El Mon beach is popular among the youth from the “Old City,” who often utilize it as a spot for teaching young children to swim, as well as for diving and jumping activities. However, conditions this week took a dangerous turn when two young men found themselves unable to escape the rough waves, prompting them to await their fate until numerous local residents, skilled at swimming against the current, intervened.

A source told “Express TV” that the situation nearly escalated on Thursday when a young Moroccan, a recent migrant, was rescued after he nearly lost consciousness underwater. This incident has intensified calls for stricter regulations or the closure of the space, particularly since no lifeguards are available, unlike many other beaches in the economic capital.
