Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch has decided to suspend the motorcycle inspection campaign launched by the Ministry of Transport and Logistics, following a wave of controversy and discontent among drivers in recent days.

A statement revealed that Akhannouch contacted Minister of Transport and Logistics Abdel Samad Khaiouh, urging the halt of the operation and granting motorcycle drivers a transitional period of 12 months to comply with legal standards and regulations.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need to utilize this period to intensify awareness campaigns regarding the dangers of tampering with motorcycle engine specifications, which could lead to an increase in road accidents. He highlighted the importance of focusing inspections on the importers of these motorcycles to ensure adherence to technical and legal standards.

Recently, the Ministry of Transport had initiated a monitoring campaign using a speed measurement device for motorcycles, known as the “Speedometer,” which sparked extensive debate on social media and prompted the government to reconsider its implementation approach.
