Return of the Neighborhood Theater Troupe with a New Comedy Titled “Siri Meri”
The “Neighborhood Theater” troupe has returned to the Moroccan artistic scene with a new play titled “Siri Meri,” after a long absence from the stage. This marks a step that recalls the glory of one of the most significant theatrical components that have influenced the national cultural scene for decades.
The performance features a roster of distinguished names that have cemented their presence in the collective memory of Moroccans, including Mohammed Al-Khayari, Abdelilah Ajel, Stars of the Flower, Ibrahim Khai, Jawad Al-Sayah, Said Lahwil, and Mohammed Amin Aimel. This ensemble embodies the spirit of the troupe, which is based on purposeful comedy and precise characterization.
The play was written by playwright Mustafa Faqi and directed by Abdelilah Ajel, as part of an artistic project organized by the Al-Khayari Theater and Arts Association with support from the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication – Cultural Sector. The work is set to premiere on the evening of Friday, August 2, at the Al-Zafzaf Theater in Casablanca, in an atmosphere expected to be filled with nostalgia for popular theater and its pioneers.
The play addresses timely social issues through a satirical style that carries profound critical messages. It also tackles the paradoxes of daily life for Moroccan citizens, using a language that combines improvisational comedy with a tightly woven dramatic structure, in an experience that promises to bring theater back to the forefront of cultural action as a mirror of society.
Through this new work, the troupe aims to regain its artistic brilliance and attract a new audience without compromising its original artistic identity that has always blended smart satire with serious social themes.
The “Neighborhood Theater” reaffirmed its commitment to continue its artistic message, which focuses on delivering performances that combine theatrical enjoyment with constructive criticism, remaining faithful to the spirit of Moroccan theater that has entertained generations of audiences.
