The President of the Congress of the Republic of Peru, Eduardo Salhuana Cavedis, along with his accompanying delegation, visited the House of Councillors on Monday, June 30, 2025. They were welcomed by the President of the Council, Mohamed Walid Al-Rachid, during an official visit aimed at strengthening parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.

This meeting served as an occasion to reaffirm the robust bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Peru, characterized by renewed dynamism in the political sphere, within a consistent framework of cooperation and coordination. Both sides highlighted the significance of the historic visit by His Majesty King Mohammed VI to Peru in 2004, which was considered a pivotal moment in enhancing the partnership between the two nations and opening new horizons for South-South cooperation, a strategic option pursued by Morocco under the wise leadership of the King.

Both parties expressed pride in the cultural, civilizational, and linguistic ties that bind the two peoples, which have established strong foundations for the evolution and expansion of bilateral relations across various fields of mutual interest.

In this context, Mohamed Walid Al-Rachid praised the initiatives of the Peruvian Congress aimed at enhancing cooperation with the Kingdom, specifically referencing the recent issuance of a motion directed to the executive authority in Peru, which includes a clear and supportive stance for Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern territories.

He also commended the positions of Peruvians within various regional and international parliamentary bodies in Latin America, particularly emphasizing the supportive stances for Morocco within the Andean Parliament, the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament, as well as within the geopolitical group at the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which collectively affirmed their support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and the autonomy initiative as a realistic solution to the fabricated conflict over Western Sahara.

For his part, Eduardo Salhuana Cavedis reiterated his country’s support for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco, confirming the support of the Peruvian Parliament for Morocco’s autonomy initiative, considering it the only serious solution to the dispute.

He also praised the visit of the President of the House of Councillors to Peru, highlighting his country’s desire to benefit from Morocco’s leading experience in various fields, which has made the Kingdom a model to emulate under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

This meeting was attended by key figures including the Secretary-General of the House of Councillors, Mansour Al-Mabaraki; the Director of the Office, Saad Ghazi; and the Head of the Foreign Relations Department, Hassan Azrakan.

The Peruvian parliamentary delegation, alongside the President of the Congress, included First Vice President Patricia Juarez Gallegos; Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Orstila Ana Obando Morgan; representative of the geopolitical group for Latin America and the Caribbean at the executive committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Maria Del Carmen Alfa Prieto; and Congress members Jose Quito Acevedo, Rosangela Andrea Barbaran Reyes, and Paridith Fonseca Carol Evit.
