British MP and former Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, Andrew Morrison, affirmed that Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, has made remarkable progress and enhanced its international status and strength, noting that the Kingdom has become a reliable partner for the United Kingdom, which seeks to deepen bilateral cooperation.
Morrison, in a statement to the Maghreb Arab Press in London on the occasion of the 26th anniversary of King Mohammed VI’s ascension to the throne, pointed out that the relations between Morocco and the United Kingdom extend back over 800 years, and there is a clear will to strengthen these ties in a spirit of mutual benefit. He mentioned that the Comprehensive Partnership Agreement signed by both countries in 2019 marked an important milestone in this journey, adding that the recent visit by the British Foreign Secretary to Morocco underscores the commitment of both nations to elevate their strategic partnership.
Morrison also confirmed his country’s support for the autonomy plan presented by Morocco to resolve the fabricated dispute over its territorial integrity, describing it as “the most credible and viable basis.” He noted that this support positions the United Kingdom alongside its European and American partners in backing a political solution to the issue.
The British MP also emphasized Morocco’s leading role in Africa due to its strategic geographical location and strong ties with the continent’s countries, expressing confidence that the Kingdom will continue to enhance its regional standing, particularly through the Atlantic initiative aimed at enabling Sahel countries to access the Atlantic Ocean, which he described as “a great opportunity” for the Sahel region. He also highlighted that Morocco, alongside Spain and Portugal, hosting the 2030 World Cup represents an opportunity to strengthen multi-sectoral cooperation between Morocco and the United Kingdom.
