Morocco Strengthens Its Position as an Industrial and Clean Energy Hub Thanks to Advances in Energy Standardization

Morocco is taking significant strides toward sustainable energy transition, having reached a renewable energy electricity production rate of 45%. This rate is expected to exceed 50% by 2026, as confirmed by the Secretary of State for Trade, Omar Hajira, during the second “FENELEC Meeting Day” held in Casablanca under the theme of standardization in the electrical sector.

In a speech addressed to professionals, experts, and institutional representatives, Hajira emphasized that securing these gains requires a strict commitment to international standards, noting that Morocco’s adherence to global norms grants it credibility and competitiveness on the international stage, particularly in the renewable energy sector.

The government official highlighted that technical standards, especially in the electrical field, represent a strategic lever for qualifying Moroccan industry, which aims to position the kingdom as an industrial and energy hub in Africa capable of meeting global market demands.

The meeting served as an opportunity to reaffirm the role of standardization in enhancing the quality of Moroccan products, ensuring the safety of installations, and boosting the exportability of national industrial solutions.

Morocco relies on a reference framework that includes over 18,600 international standards, of which nearly 2,000 in the electrical sector have been mobilized to support national companies in their industrial and technological advancements.

Omar Hajira explained that this dynamic contributes to enhancing the reliability of Moroccan products and ensuring a regulated energy transition based on quality, safety, and innovation.

Beyond economic objectives, the speaker highlighted that this strategy aligns with a royal vision aimed at making Morocco a regional player in the field of clean energy, emphasizing the importance of South-South cooperation in standardization, in line with climate commitments and fostering regional solidarity.
