Morocco Launches New Technology Hub to Enhance Its Technical Sovereignty by 2040
Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, announced the launch of a technology hub as a strategic initiative aimed at transforming the engineering, applied research, and innovation landscape in the Kingdom, in light of global technological changes and increasing challenges related to water, energy, and infrastructure.
This project is part of a comprehensive vision from the Ministry of Equipment and Water, based on royal directives and responding to the needs of the national economy during a transitional phase. The hub serves as a key driver for reshaping the country’s scientific, technical, and industrial policies.
The hub is anchored by three reference institutions: the Hassan II School of Public Works, the Public Laboratory for Experiments and Studies, and the National Center for Technical Studies. Its goal is to achieve integration between higher education, field experience, and advanced scientific research in order to build a cohesive and sustainable national technology ecosystem.
The hub aims to play a central role in aligning with Morocco’s strategic priorities by enhancing applied research, establishing partnerships with international research and development centers, and accelerating technology transfer, all of which will bolster the state’s capabilities in vital sectors.
In this context, the Hassan II School of Public Works is entering a new phase of transformation, adopting an innovative educational model based on academic partnerships with prestigious global universities to strengthen its position as a leading institution in training engineers with international competencies.
The ministry places at the core of this project a comprehensive strategy for human resource management, focusing on discovering Moroccan talents, ensuring their continuous training, and mentoring them by specialized experts, as a step towards enhancing Morocco’s technological resilience in the long term.
The technology hub represents one of the pillars of the ministry’s vision for 2040, being a mechanism to support public policies, accompany major structural projects, and enhance the regional and international presence of the Kingdom, by placing technological sovereignty at the heart of the national development strategy.
