Morocco Reinforces Its Position as an African Economic Hub, According to the Japan External Trade Organization

The Director General of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) in Rabat, Hiroyuki Izumi, stated that Morocco continues to make significant advancements in strategic sectors, thanks to the royal vision and the development of major projects.

In an interview with the Moroccan News Agency on the occasion of Throne Day, the Japanese official highlighted the leap the kingdom has experienced in renewable energy, particularly green hydrogen, alongside infrastructure and logistics connectivity. He pointed to the Tanger-Med Port, the largest of its kind in Africa in terms of container handling, and the high-speed train line “Al Boraq” as examples of this transformation.

Izumi noted that precision industries, such as automotive and aerospace, have witnessed strong growth, contributing to increased exports, the creation of new jobs, and the enhancement of effective local production systems. He added that this dynamism has reflected on the pace of economic growth, which is accelerating, supported by a solid industrial base.

The spokesperson emphasized that Morocco’s political and social stability serves as a key attraction for Japanese investors, explaining that the number of Japanese companies operating in the kingdom has doubled from 35 to 70 in recent years.

He indicated that Morocco enjoys multiple competitive advantages, including its geographical location bridging Europe and Africa, an advanced infrastructure network, an effective industrial base, qualified personnel, and free trade agreements that open export doors to major markets.

The Director General of JETRO concluded that Morocco, as an African country steadily moving towards industrialization and commercial openness, possesses the essential ingredients to be a pivotal player in regional development and the global economy.
