Morocco and China Sign Agreement to Accelerate Patent Processing and Enhance Innovation Cooperation

The Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC) and the National Intellectual Property Administration of China (CNIPA) signed a memorandum of understanding to launch a “Fast Track Patent Processing” mechanism (PPH) on the sidelines of the General Assemblies of the member states of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva.

This initiative aims to expedite the processing of patent applications submitted in Morocco and China, allowing inventors from both countries to protect their inventions more swiftly once an initial positive evaluation is issued by either party.

The memorandum was signed in the presence of OMPIC Director General Abdelaziz Babiki and CNIPA Commissioner Shen Changyu, where both sides reviewed the latest developments in their respective industrial property systems and discussed prospects for developing their strategic partnership and ongoing bilateral cooperation projects.

This agreement represents a new step in modernizing Morocco’s industrial property system, reflecting the kingdom’s commitment to engaging with key global players in the field of innovation. It also aims to improve the quality of services provided to applicants, simplify procedures, and align national standards with best international practices.
