Moroccan Families’ Pessimism About Food Prices Continues Despite Improved Confidence Index in Q2 2025

Results from the ongoing household survey conducted by the High Commission for Planning reveal that Moroccan families continue to express significant pessimism regarding the rise in food prices and their future savings capability, despite a noticeable improvement in the confidence index during the second quarter of 2025 compared to the previous quarter and the same period in 2024.

94.2% of families reported that food prices increased over the past 12 months, while only 1.7% disagreed. This resulted in a negative balance for this indicator of minus 92.5 points, reflecting a slight improvement compared to minus 97.4 points in the first quarter of this year and minus 96.0 points in the same quarter last year.

Furthermore, family expectations for the future indicate continued concern, with 78.9% predicting prices will continue to rise in the coming year, compared to 18.8% expecting stability and only 2.3% anticipating a decrease. This led to a balance for this indicator settling at minus 76.6 points, showing limited improvement in comparison to the previous quarter (minus 80.0 points) and the second quarter of 2024 (minus 79.1 points).

Moroccan families also displayed a pessimistic outlook regarding their ability to save, with only 8.7% indicating they could save over the next 12 months, while 91.3% felt unable to do so. Consequently, this indicator’s balance reached minus 82.6 points, declining relative to the previous quarter (minus 77.6 points) and the second quarter of 2024 (minus 80.4 points).

In contrast, despite these negative perceptions, the family confidence index saw significant improvement, reaching 54.6 points in the second quarter of 2025, compared to 46.6 points in the first quarter of the same year and 46.1 points during the same period last year, reflecting an overall improvement in the morale atmosphere, albeit amidst ongoing economic pressures.
