Moroccan Family Confidence Improves in 2025 Amid Concerns Over Unemployment and Declining Living Standards

In the second quarter of 2025, the Moroccan family confidence index improved, reaching 54.6 points compared to 46.6 points in the previous quarter, according to data from the High Commission for Planning. This improvement remains relative, considering that other indicators continue to reflect negative levels that reveal widespread caution among families.

In their assessment of living conditions, 76% of families reported a decline in their standard of living over the past 12 months. In contrast, 17.2% considered the situation stable, while 6.8% noticed an improvement. This indicator showed a slight improvement at -69.2 points compared to -76.5 points in the previous quarter and -78.2 points a year ago.

Regarding future expectations, pessimism is still prevalent, with 44.9% of families anticipating a continued decline in living standards over the next year, while 45.4% expect stability and 9.7% predict improvement. Nevertheless, the balance of this indicator improved to -35.2 points from -46.3 points in the previous quarter.

Concerning the job market, 71.8% of families expect an increase in unemployment over the next year, while 14.3% foresee a decrease. The balance of this indicator remained at -57.5 points, confirming ongoing concerns related to job opportunities.

When it comes to consumption, 72.7% of families find the conditions for purchasing durable goods unencouraging, while 9.9% believe the circumstances are favorable for buying. The balance of this indicator stood at -62.8 points, highlighting weak purchasing power and a decrease in major consumer spending.

Regarding income, 57.6% of families stated that their earnings barely cover their expenses, while 40.6% have depleted their savings or turned to borrowing. The percentage of families that managed to save part of their income did not exceed 1.8%.

The current financial situation of families remains weak, with a balance of -38.8 points. The financial evaluation of families over the past year also recorded -45.9 points, with half of families considering their situation has declined, compared to only 4.2% who saw improvement.

In terms of future financial expectations, 15.1% of families expect improvement in their financial situation, while 61.3% foresee stability, and 23.6% fear deterioration, resulting in a negative balance of -8.5 points.

The High Commission for Planning confirmed that the family confidence index is calculated based on seven key indicators related to living conditions, unemployment, consumption, and the current and future financial status of families.

The general improvement in the family confidence index does not conceal ongoing social and economic concerns, raising questions about the effectiveness of government measures in restoring confidence and improving living conditions for Moroccans.
