The Republic of Liberia, the newly elected non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council starting January 2026, has reaffirmed its steadfast support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Sahara region. This was stated by Liberia’s Foreign Minister, Sarah Bologo Nyanti, during a press conference held in Rabat following her meeting with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita.
Minister Nyanti emphasized her country’s full support for the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco, considering it “the only reliable, serious, and realistic solution” to the regional conflict over the Sahara. She clarified that Liberia, as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, would continue to advocate for this position within the UN body.
The minister praised the growing international momentum and the efforts led by King Mohammed VI to promote the autonomy plan and uphold Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara, asserting that this international momentum reflects an increasing consensus supporting Morocco’s proposed political solution for a lasting and peaceful resolution to the conflict.
