Abdelouafi Laftit Warns Against Exploiting Charitable Actions for Electoral Purposes and Confirms Strict Application of the Law

Follow-up

Minister of the Interior Abdelouafi Laftit has warned against exploiting charitable initiatives during religious occasions for narrow electoral ends. He stressed that his ministry will firmly confront any deviation from the noble solidarity nature of such initiatives by activating legal provisions aimed at protecting both beneficiaries and donors.

In response to a written question from MP Mohamed Walzin of the Movement Popular Party, Laftit clarified that the Ministry of the Interior is committed to ensuring that the distribution of aid is conducted in full respect of public order and maintains its humanitarian aspect. He noted that governors and local officials are legally authorized to halt or postpone any initiative if it is found to violate current regulations.

The minister emphasized that Law 18.18, concerning the organization of fundraising and the distribution of charitable aid, issued alongside its implementing decree in April 2025, aims to establish transparency and effectiveness in charitable work. It also ensures that support reaches its rightful recipients within a clear legal framework, while monitoring the use of funds generated from donations.

He explained that this law was introduced in response to royal directives aimed at promoting a culture of solidarity within society and simplifying procedures related to donations and volunteering, without compromising principles of governance and transparency. He reiterated that any attempt to exploit these charitable operations for unlawful purposes will be dealt with severely.

MP Mohamed Walzin raised the issue through a written question, calling for the disclosure of measures taken to prevent certain political entities from exploiting religious occasions, particularly during Ramadan, to distribute aid aimed at influencing voters. He pointed to illegal practices that condition support on joining political bodies or providing personal information.

In this context, Laftit reaffirmed that charitable work must remain free from narrow political calculations and that the ministry will not tolerate any party attempting to manipulate it outside its legal and solidarity framework.
