Interactive Digital Map to Enhance the Openness of Moroccan Handicrafts to Global Markets
The Ministry of State responsible for Handicrafts and Social and Solidarity Economy, in partnership with the Artisan Home Foundation, has launched an innovative interactive digital map designed to organize and track professional and commercial events related to handicrafts. This initiative reflects a strategic direction aimed at supporting industry players and strengthening their presence in international markets.
The platform aims to enable artisans, self-employed individuals, cooperatives, and businesses to access a database updated every six months, containing precise information about 228 professional events distributed across 34 international markets.
The new map relies on an advanced user interface that allows searches based on multiple criteria such as target country, type of event, date of organization, number of visitors, and the nature of displayed products, enabling professionals to plan in advance and actively participate in relevant international exhibitions. This initiative falls within the ongoing dynamism in Morocco’s handicraft sector, which is witnessing a continuous rise in demand for authentic products, both in the local market and globally.
Moroccan handicraft exports recorded a value of 1.1 billion dirhams in 2024, reflecting a growth of 40% compared to 2019. The United States topped the list of importing destinations at 44%, followed by France at 14%, and Spain at 6%. Pottery and stone products led exports with a 36% increase, followed by carpets at 20%, confirming the growing interest in Moroccan crafts with artistic and heritage characteristics.
This platform is part of a national strategy aimed at enabling the sector to keep pace with rapid transformations in promotion and marketing mechanisms, reinforcing Morocco’s position as a key player in the global handicraft market by leveraging digital support tools and expanding the participation base in major international events.
