Guatemala Confirms Its Support for Moroccan Sovereignty Over the Sahara and Rejects Claims of National Unity Opponents
In a diplomatic stance affirming Morocco’s territorial integrity, the Republic of Guatemala reiterated that the autonomy initiative presented by Morocco in 2007 represents the only serious, realistic, and credible solution to the fabricated dispute over Moroccan Sahara.
This statement was made by Guatemala’s Foreign Minister, Carlos Ramiro Martinez Alvarado, during a press conference held today, Thursday, alongside his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, in the capital, Rabat.
The Guatemalan official expressed his country’s full support for Morocco’s efforts to find a lasting, realistic, and mutually agreed-upon political solution to this regional dispute, in line with the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Both sides emphasized during this meeting their commitment to the sanctity of the principles of national sovereignty and territorial unity, viewing them as fundamental pillars in international relations.
It is worth noting that Guatemala was the first country from Latin America to open a consulate in the city of Dakhla in December 2022, which marked a clear political support for Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara and a tangible representation of the deep relations between the two countries.
