FIFA Cancels Third Place Match in 2025 Club World Cup

The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) announced the cancellation of the third-place match in the current edition of the Club World Cup, taking place in the United States. This decision aims to reduce the pressure of matches on participating clubs.

FIFA clarified on its official website that this measure will allow teams not qualifying for the final to quickly return to their local and international commitments. The organization noted that this step reflects its commitment to consider the physical and logistical aspects affecting clubs and players.

As a result, only three matches will be played before the conclusion of the global tournament. The semi-finals are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, with Chelsea facing off against Brazilian club Fluminense in the first match, while Spanish side Real Madrid will meet French team Paris Saint-Germain in the second. The highly anticipated final is set to take place on Sunday, July 13.

This edition of the Club World Cup is exceptional in terms of organization and expansive participation, occurring amid ongoing preparations for future editions that will involve radical changes to the format and timing of the tournament.
