Nadia Fettah: Organizing the 2030 World Cup gives Morocco the opportunity to create 100,000 jobs annually

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah, confirmed that Morocco’s joint hosting of the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal will provide the kingdom with the opportunity to create over 100,000 jobs each year, alongside an expected additional growth rate of 1.7%.

During the second session of the “Morocco Today” forum held in Rabat under the auspices of King Mohammed VI, she highlighted that the anticipated economic benefits have been accurately modeled. However, she emphasized that the real challenge lies in transforming this momentum into tangible results that encompass all stakeholders.

Fettah noted that this dynamism is not just of concern to large enterprises but also represents a genuine opportunity for small and medium-sized businesses, which must be integrated into this process to benefit and enhance their competitiveness. She pointed out that Morocco is currently undergoing a profound transformation, not only looking towards 2030 but starting from now, working towards a future that is more inclusive and equitable.

The minister also emphasized that the 2030 World Cup presents an opportunity to accelerate financial inclusion, particularly for artisans, by developing mobile banking services and enhancing infrastructure in transportation and communication, which are fundamental for any sustainable socio-economic transformation.

Additionally, the Minister Delegate for Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, Amal El Alami, discussed the emergence of a new culture of digital services, vital for supporting this national project, focusing on trust in digitization, enabling citizens to interact with digital tools, and linking accountability to public performance evaluation.

El Alami revealed that work is underway to prepare a specific law for the digital domain, which will be presented during the upcoming political season after passing through the relevant bodies. This legislation, drafted in collaboration with the National Commission for the Protection of Personal Data, the General Directorate of National Security, and the Directorate for Information Systems Security, aims to establish trust between citizens and digital services.

The minister noted that the ministry is also investing in training and awareness programs, alongside focusing on generative artificial intelligence as a lever to broaden access to digital transformation.

The forum also featured participation from the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, the President of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises, Chakib Alj, and the CEO of the Attijariwafa Bank Group, Mohamed El Kettani, in discussions centered on sustainable development opportunities by 2030. This event, organized by Le Matin Group under the theme “Royal Vision – Morocco 2030: Laying the Foundations of a Great Nation,” included an opening address via video link from Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch and was attended by national and international figures from the fields of economics, politics, sports, digitization, and media.
