Exploring Natural Hydrogen in Morocco Attracts British Energy Companies
The pace of British companies’ interest in Morocco has accelerated, as natural hydrogen enters the global race for alternative energy sources. Gas that has been trapped deep within the earth for millions of years is no longer out of reach, thanks to advanced drilling technologies that have spurred industry players to seek a clean and promising alternative to fossil fuels.
Morocco has become one of the targeted destinations in this new phase, with companies such as Sound Energy, listed on the AIM in London, coordinating with Getech, a firm specializing in geological analysis, to explore the potential of harnessing hydrogen found in deep geological layers.
Activities have commenced with extensive geographical surveys of Moroccan terrains to identify the areas most likely to contain this resource, while these companies are now preparing to move to the experimental drilling phase following the fulfillment of legal and administrative procedures concerning permits.
Initial data is encouraging. According to John Argyle, Vice President of Sound Energy, the current goal is to verify the presence of commercially viable quantities of hydrogen using precise field surveys and exploratory drilling, paving the way for a project that could significantly change Morocco’s position on the international energy map.
The stakes are high. The conversation is no longer just about future energy but about an economic and geopolitical opportunity that allows non-oil countries to enter a promising market estimated to hold billions of tons of clean natural gas reserves.
