Death of “Bouabid,” Who Protested on a Water Tank in Beni Mellal, After Days of Exceptional Struggle

A citizen known as “Bouabid” (nicknamed “Palestine”), in his forties, passed away late Monday night – Tuesday, just days after an unprecedented protest atop a water tank in the Ouled Youssef area of Beni Mellal.

Medical sources confirmed that the deceased breathed his last in the intensive care unit at the regional hospital in Beni Mellal, where he was transferred in critical condition after being removed from the protest site.

Bouabid had begun an open-ended protest more than 15 days ago from a high altitude, demanding a “fair and transparent” investigation into what he described as “mysterious” circumstances surrounding the death of his father, who passed away shortly after retiring, according to Bouabid’s statements.

Despite several attempts by the authorities to convince him to end his protest, Bouabid remained steadfast in his position. When civil protection personnel intervened to bring him down, Bouabid struck one of the civil protection officers in various places on his body before attempting to take his own life, leading to his hospitalization, where he ultimately died.
