“Death of a Prisoner in Nador… Prison Administration Clarifies and Denies Claims of Mysterious Death”

In response to circulating news and posts regarding the “mysterious death of a young prisoner at Nador local prison,” the prison administration clarified that the individual in question had been suffering from a chronic illness and had received necessary medical attention until his passing, firmly denying that the death was caused by unnatural circumstances.

According to an official statement from the Nador local prison administration, which was received by the Moroccan News Agency, the prisoner, known during his life as (M.Q.), who was detained in connection with a case involving the illegal trade of alcoholic beverages, was transferred on July 18, 2025, to the regional hospital in the city after experiencing breathing difficulties due to a serious long-term illness affecting his throat.

The statement added that the late prisoner had been receiving adequate care within the prison’s medical facility and had been transferred multiple times to external hospitals, including the Nador regional hospital on three occasions, and to the Mohammed VI University Hospital in Oujda on July 17, where he received treatment before being returned to prison the same day.

The prison administration emphasized its commitment to providing healthcare to all inmates according to their health conditions, indicating that “certain parties are deliberately spreading false information to mislead public opinion and suggest that suspicious deaths are occurring within prisons.”

The statement concluded by reiterating that all cases of death are handled according to the relevant legal procedures, with the competent public prosecutor being notified to examine the body and conduct an autopsy to determine the exact causes of death.
