A former Colombian Vice President and former Foreign Minister, Marta Lucía Ramírez, praised Morocco’s logistical and economic developments over the past 26 years, emphasizing that the kingdom has successfully enhanced its international stature through advanced infrastructure and strategic projects.
She noted that Morocco has significantly improved its ranking in connectivity and transportation, positioning itself as a strategic partner for both Europe and Africa amid increasing interest from international investors.
Ramírez highlighted several major projects that have directly impacted Morocco’s image, notably the Tangier-Med Port, which she described as the largest port in Africa and among the top thirty globally in container traffic. She regarded it as a transformation for Morocco into a global logistics hub, leveraging its strategic position at the Strait of Gibraltar and connections to over 180 international ports. Additionally, she underscored the significance of the high-speed train “Al Boraq,” Africa’s first of its kind, which has improved transportation quality and enhanced domestic connectivity.
She pointed out that the highway network has also expanded significantly, with the construction or modernization of over 1,800 kilometers, helping to alleviate the isolation of certain areas and connect ports with industrial and urban centers. Ramírez also praised Morocco’s achievements in renewable energy, particularly the Noor solar power plant, which has positioned the kingdom as a continental leader in this field, aiming to cover over half of its electricity demand with clean sources by 2030.
She further discussed efforts to rehabilitate historical cities such as Fez, Marrakech, Essaouira, and Rabat, viewing these as a balanced approach that combines heritage preservation with enhancing tourist attractions. She also referred to strategic economic projects like the Casablanca Financial Center, which has solidified Morocco’s status as a regional financial hub.
Regarding the issue of Western Sahara, she noted the developmental dynamism in the southern provinces, driven by significant investments in infrastructure, port development, energy, and social services, which reflects the state’s commitment to integrated and comprehensive development. She concluded by affirming that these achievements, realized under the leadership of His Majesty the King, have changed the image of Morocco and established its position as a prominent logistics, tourism, and investment center on the international stage.
