Bensaid affirms Morocco’s ambition to become a regional hub for electronic games

The Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication inaugurated the second edition of the Morocco Electronic Games Exhibition, emphasizing that Morocco aims to become a continental and regional leader in this evolving sector.

The minister pointed out that the project began four years ago from a simple idea that has developed into a comprehensive strategy, leading to the launch of this edition, which represents a significant step toward building a digital economy based on creativity and innovation.

He continued that the electronic games industry is a vast sector witnessing rapid growth, with the global market size estimated at around $300 billion, expected to reach $535 billion by 2033. He noted that mobile gaming contributes approximately 49% of global revenues, generating $92.6 billion, while computer and console games continue to introduce ongoing innovations.

In this context, the minister confirmed that Morocco, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, places great importance on digital transformation through the “Digital Morocco 2030” strategy, which aims to enhance digital infrastructure, develop skills, support innovation, and foster entrepreneurship.

He highlighted that Morocco possesses significant youthful talent interested in technology and electronic games, necessitating the channeling of these talents toward developing design, programming, and digital arts skills, particularly through partnerships with international schools like ISART and the establishment of a dedicated directorate for the gaming industry within the communication sector.

The minister added that government partners are working to provide an attractive investment environment through initiatives such as the “Rabat Gaming City” project, which offers a platform for innovation, along with Franco-Moroccan collaboration to launch support programs for startups in the sector.

He also mentioned the importance of leveraging Morocco’s rich cultural heritage in designing games that reflect national identity, by incorporating historical narratives and traditional arts, which enhances the global appeal of these games.

Moreover, the minister stressed that the exhibition represents an opportunity to unify talent, opportunities, infrastructure, government support, and cultural content, urging everyone to utilize this platform for knowledge exchange, partnership formation, and industry growth.

He concluded by affirming Morocco’s potential to become a key player in the electronic games industry at both regional and international levels, backed by a clear royal vision and support for youth, with a call for collective action to build a prosperous digital future.
