Young Man Dies from Venomous Snake Bite in Zagora as Health Warnings Emerge
A young man in his twenties lost his life last weekend after being bitten by a venomous “Bouska” snake in the Nakoub area of Zagora Province. The region has recently recorded several fatalities attributed to snake and scorpion bites, attributed to rising temperatures and a shortage of antivenom in nearby health centers.
The Ministry of Health has warned against traditional methods of treating snake and scorpion bites, such as constricting the affected limb, cutting, suction, cauterization, or the use of chemical substances and herbs, as these can lead to serious complications.
The ministry advised avoiding reaching into holes, staying away from grassy areas or rocky piles, and emphasized the necessity of wearing protective footwear and clothing. Additionally, it urged the removal of weeds around homes, maintenance of open spaces, and the need to seal cracks and holes to reduce the risk of bites and stings.
