The United Arab Emirates reaffirms its support for Morocco’s autonomy initiative, strengthening its position on the territorial integrity of Morocco.

During a session of the United Nations’ Fourth Committee held in New York from June 9 to 20, the UAE reiterated that Morocco’s initiative, proposed in 2007, serves as the sole basis for a political solution to the Moroccan Sahara issue that preserves the unity of the Kingdom’s territories.

The UAE emphasized that Morocco’s proposal has the backing of the Security Council and is regarded as serious, credible, and realistic.

Fatima Youssef, Deputy Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations, clarified that her country fully affirms Morocco’s sovereignty over all its territories, including the southern regions, and praised the development projects initiated by the Kingdom for the benefit of the inhabitants of these areas to enhance sustainable development.

The spokesperson underscored the UAE’s consistent stance in support of Morocco’s sovereignty and territorial unity, as well as its legitimate rights, while also highlighting the UAE’s support for the efforts of the Secretary-General’s personal envoy, Staffan de Mistura, to revive the political process under the auspices of the United Nations.
