The government intensifies price controls and seizes tons of spoiled products

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah, confirmed that by the end of May, the government had conducted more than 182,000 field inspections, resulting in 12,000 violations. This is part of efforts aimed at protecting citizens’ purchasing power and addressing rising prices.

The minister clarified, during her response to a question in the House of Representatives posed by the Democratic Constitutional and Social team, that these operations also led to the destruction of more than 1,000 tons of unfit-for-consumption products, as part of enhancing monitoring of the quality and prices of items available in markets.

Fettah noted that the government relies on a series of measures to monitor markets and control prices, including intensifying inspection operations during periods of heightened consumption pressure, such as Ramadan and summer, in coordination with various relevant ministries, particularly the Ministries of Interior and Industry and Trade.

The minister emphasized that the government is not limited to regulatory interventions but also works to provide direct and indirect support to citizens through reducing the VAT on certain basic goods and products, thus contributing to alleviating the impact of price increases and improving households’ purchasing power.
