The Passing of Abdelhak El Merini, Official Spokesperson for the Royal Palace and Former Director of Honors and Decorations

Abdelhak El Merini, the official spokesperson of the Royal Palace and former director of the royal palaces, honors, and decorations, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2025, at the age of 91.

Born in Rabat on May 31, 1934, he memorized the Quran at an early age and continued his studies at Moulay Youssef High School.

He obtained his diploma from the Institute of Moroccan Higher Studies in 1960, followed by his bachelor’s degree in literature from the Faculty of Letters in Rabat in 1962. In 1966, he earned a diploma of higher studies from the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies at the University of Strasbourg, and in 1973, he received his doctorate from the same institution. In 1989, he obtained a state doctorate in literature from Mohammed Ben Abdellah University in Fez.

He began his career as a teacher of Arabic language and national education in the early 1960s and served as the head of the office for the Deputy Secretary of State for Technical Education and Training from 1964 to 1965.
