The Supreme Audit Institution participated in the Financial Audit Summit of the G20 held in Johannesburg
The Supreme Audit Institution participated on June 24 and 25, 2025, in the summit of the supreme audit institutions of G20 countries, held in Johannesburg, led by Zainab Al-Adwi, the president of the institution, at the invitation of the Auditor General of South Africa.
The institution had previously participated in the technical preparatory meetings for the summit that took place in February and March. This marks its third consecutive participation in this prominent international event.
The 2025 summit focused on two main topics:
1. Financing infrastructure for development
2. Preparing countries with skills for the future
During the general session, Al-Adwi highlighted the importance of these two topics in the context of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing the need to reform international development financing to consider debt sustainability, climate challenges, and demands for justice and representation.
She pointed out the constraints of managing infrastructure projects in low-income countries, noting weak governance and a lack of competencies, and the role of audit institutions in addressing these issues. She also presented Morocco’s experience in this field, particularly within the framework of the National Human Development Strategy, and the role of the Supreme Audit Institution in supporting this.
Al-Adwi confirmed that the institution has integrated these priorities into its strategic plan for 2022-2026 through oversight tasks aimed at improving the governance of infrastructure projects and aligning employment and training policies with labor market transformations.
She described the summit as an important space for sharing experiences, developing partnerships, and enhancing coordination with the G20 and initiatives of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI).
On the sidelines of the summit, Al-Adwi held bilateral meetings with her counterparts from Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Russia, Egypt, and Turkey to strengthen cooperation and share experiences in the fields of audit and public accounting, in the light of the growing international role of the Supreme Audit Institution.
