Bouari: National Livestock Herd Reconstruction Begins with a Precise Methodology to Support Farmers and Ensure Food Security
Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests, Ahmed Bouari, announced yesterday in Rabat that authorities have commenced the process of reconstructing the national livestock herd using a methodology designed to deliver support directly to farmers through special committees overseen by local authorities.
Bouari clarified in a press statement after a meeting at the Ministry of Interior on the matter that this gathering reflects the implementation of the high directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and demonstrates the commitment of all stakeholders to successfully carry out this operation under the best conditions.
The minister indicated that the herd reconstruction process relies on five main axes: establishing local committees to conduct a census of the national livestock, ensuring tracking concerning feed provision, enhancing health prevention against diseases, providing technical guidance, and dispensing direct support to farmers.
The meeting emphasized the importance of this operation due to its strategic roles in strengthening the productivity of the livestock sector, ensuring its sustainability, and securing the food sovereignty of the Kingdom, alongside supporting farmers and enhancing their capacity to face economic and climatic challenges amid successive dry years.
It was also decided to create an accurate national digital database that specifies the composition of the herd and the identities of its owners, based on a strategic vision focused on digitizing procedures and achieving transparency.
Attending the meeting were Minister of Interior Abdelouafi Laftit, the Minister Delegate for Budget Fouzi Lecja, and several senior officials from the relevant government sectors. Regional governors and local officials participated via video conferencing, alongside representatives from various economic, financial, and agricultural sectors across the Kingdom’s regions and provinces.
