Suspected Chemical Leak Triggers Alarm at Leoni Morocco’s Production Facility in Bouskoura

On Tuesday morning, May 27, the Leoni Morocco site in Bouskoura experienced heightened alert after several production team members exhibited symptoms of fatigue and shortness of breath. The incident occurred around 9:15 AM, prompting the immediate activation of the internal emergency plan and notification of the relevant authorities.

Rescue teams evacuated the affected workers from the production site and transported them to a local medical facility for precautionary examinations. The individuals received necessary medical attention and returned home the same day, with no serious health complications reported.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident may stem from an external source, with two neighboring industrial units likely responsible. The first unit is suspected of emitting greenhouse gases due to waste burning, while the second unit was reportedly disinfecting its site using a rapidly spreading chemical at the same time. This coincidence has bolstered the theory of a substance leak into the vicinity of Leoni.

The company confirmed its adherence to a strict safety system that complies with the highest international standards, noting that all its production sites hold ISO 45001 certifications recognized in occupational health and safety. Additionally, it announced the initiation of a comprehensive audit of its security protocols aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of preventive measures and anticipating potential risks.
