Random car guards exploit the alleys of Mahdia despite the availability of legal parking at a nominal fee.

Kénitra Office:

The alleys near Mahdia beach in the Kénitra region have turned into open spaces for random car guards, who collect fees from citizens without any legal backing. This situation raises serious questions about the role of local authorities in combating this growing phenomenon.

A tour of several alleys close to the beach clearly shows that all it takes to become an unofficial car guard is a whistle, a colorful vest, an unclear badge, and a sun hat. These individuals illegally use public land to directly profit from visitors and residents. They lack any licenses or insurance, providing security services without guarantees, which exposes vehicles to the risk of theft or damage with no accountability. This also disrupts traffic, particularly during peak times.

Strangely, these illegal parking spots have turned into a shared income source, with different individuals taking turns in these spaces throughout the day, without any commitment or legal responsibility. The fees charged are unspecified and solely depend on the arbitrary discretion of the guards, sometimes influenced by pressure from some of the guards.

Despite the presence of official organized parking at Mahdia beach, which offers security services at a nominal fee and in a legal framework, this disorder invades the alleys of Mahdia. This creates an unfair competition for licensed parking operators and leaves citizens vulnerable due to a lack of oversight.

The phenomenon, which recurs every summer season, raises concerns among residents and visitors, and highlights the urgent need for intervention from authorities to enforce order and liberate public land from the control of random guards who have turned these alleys into personal profit schemes.
