MINURSO Mission Inspects Bombing Sites Near Smara and Documents Violations by “Polisario”

- in International

The United Nations mission in Western Sahara (MINURSO) conducted a field visit on Friday evening to the sites of recent shelling near the city of Smara, following an attack that triggered widespread security and military alert in the area.

The visit, accompanied by units from the Royal Armed Forces, included four sites hit by projectiles, one of which was located near a MINURSO base. This was seen by field sources as a serious violation of the ceasefire agreement.

Informed sources indicated that military experts from the UN mission began documenting the attack by identifying the type of projectiles used, their launch points, and the direction of their explosions. A detailed technical report will be submitted to UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

This step comes at a time when violations by the “Polisario terrorist movement” of Security Council resolutions are escalating, amid increasing Moroccan and international calls to reclassify this group as an armed entity jeopardizing regional stability.

The attack targeting the area around Smara, using projectiles that landed close to a MINURSO base, strengthens demands to designate the Polisario Front as a terrorist organization. Attacking populated areas and UN facilities underscores that the Polisario is an armed entity that adopts militia tactics, outside international law.
