For the first time, Royal Air Maroc has opted to rent two aircraft from a Gulf company to overcome delays in aircraft deliveries.

The airline announced the signing of an agreement with “Dubai Aerospace Enterprise” to lease two Boeing 737-8 Max aircraft. The first aircraft was delivered on Friday, while the second is expected to be delivered soon, though the value of the deal has not been disclosed.

This decision is part of Royal Air Maroc’s plan to expand its flight network, in line with the national strategy aimed at attracting 17.5 million tourists by 2026 and over 26 million tourists by the end of the decade, coinciding with preparations to host the World Cup in partnership with Spain and Portugal.

This agreement marks the first time the Moroccan airline has turned to Gulf companies for aircraft leasing, having traditionally relied on European and American companies. This shift is part of a broader strategy to expand the company’s fleet following the signing of a 2023 program contract with the Moroccan government to enhance its fleet by approximately 200 new aircraft at an estimated cost of $25 billion, which is four times the number of currently operated planes.
