Damascus Denies Attempted Assassination of President Ahmad al-Shara in Daraa
The Syrian Ministry of Information denied on Sunday the validity of reports circulating in various media regarding an alleged thwarted assassination attempt on Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara during his recent visit to Daraa Province.
A responsible source in the ministry told the Syrian News Agency (SANA) that claims of cooperation between the Syrian army and Turkish intelligence to thwart an assassination plot against the president are unfounded.
Media reports had claimed that the assassination attempt was orchestrated by a cell linked to ISIS, led by an individual from Daraa, and that the Syrian army managed to arrest him a day before the president’s arrival in the city.
The Syrian source confirmed that these allegations are baseless, noting that President al-Shara’s visit to Daraa took place under normal conditions with tight security arrangements, and no threats or incidents were recorded during the visit.
The source also urged media outlets to verify their information and avoid disseminating misleading details that could cause confusion.
