Kenitra, Ben Guerir, and Taroudant Among the Hottest Cities Globally

Oussar Ahmed

The global weather site “Eldorado Weather,” specializing in temperature monitoring, has ranked three Moroccan cities among the top 15 hottest cities on Earth this Sunday morning, highlighting growing concerns over escalating heatwaves affecting the kingdom.

Ben Guerir ranked tenth in the world with a temperature of 46.4 degrees Celsius, surpassing several Gulf cities known for their extreme heat.

Kenitra, usually described as having a moderate climate, surprisingly appeared in the fourteenth position with a recorded temperature of 45.8 degrees.

Taroudant came in fifteenth with temperatures exceeding 45 degrees Celsius.

On a global scale, Kuwait topped the list with 48.3 degrees, followed by Al-Ahsa, Saudi Arabia, at 48.2 degrees, and the city of Al-Luhuh in Oman at 47.2 degrees.

The data confirms a shift towards more extreme climatic phenomena, raising questions about the readiness of infrastructure in Moroccan cities to cope with such climatic fluctuations.

It also compels local authorities to take urgent preventive measures to protect vulnerable populations from the expanding heatwave, which is now affecting even areas previously known for their moderate climate.
