Hammouchi Signs Security Roadmap with His French Counterpart to Combat Crime and Terrorism

Today, Tuesday, in Rabat, a joint action plan was signed between the General Directorate of National Security and the Territorial Surveillance of the Kingdom of Morocco, and its French counterpart, the General Directorate of the National Police. This step reflects the strength of the security relations between the two countries and their desire to confront common security challenges.

The signing took place during an audience granted by Abdelatif Hammouchi, Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, to his French counterpart, Louis Logerot, who was accompanied by the French Ambassador to Morocco, Christophe Le Courtois, and several senior French security officials. The meeting served as an opportunity to establish a new roadmap for bilateral cooperation, based on successful prior experiences and looking towards broader horizons.

The official statement issued by the General Directorate of National Security confirmed that this joint security plan aims to institutionalize cooperation mechanisms between the two parties and expand areas of joint work to include transnational organized crime, tracking internationally sought persons, and creating joint task forces to tackle emerging security challenges.

This plan not only encompasses field operations but also includes training, capacity building, and the exchange of information and expertise, thereby enhancing the strategic partnership between the two countries. It also frames cooperation in technical assistance and operational coordination, within a context that transcends the traditional character of bilateral relations towards building an advanced model of security integration.

The official visit of the French police chief to Morocco came to reinforce this vision through in-depth discussions with Moroccan officials, focusing on assessing existing cooperation and exploring new mechanisms to enhance joint security preparedness. These discussions reflected a shared awareness of the necessity to unify efforts to face escalating risks, primarily terrorism and organized crime.

In this context, the French side expressed its deep appreciation for the crucial role played by Moroccan security agencies in supporting French security, particularly in combating terrorism threats and tracking down individuals wanted by French justice, alongside the effective contribution to securing the events of the Olympic Games hosted in Paris.

In a strong symbolic gesture, the French ambassador to Morocco presented the French Legion of Honor to Abdelatif Hammouchi, in recognition of his significant contributions to strengthening joint security and acknowledging Morocco’s leading role in international security.

The French side emphasized that the awarding of this prestigious medal reflects an official and public recognition of the efficiency and capability of Moroccan security agencies, and attests to the effectiveness of bilateral cooperation, which has become a model for the exchange of security assistance and the neutralization of common threats.

Louis Logerot’s visit to Morocco and the resulting agreements and honors illustrate the advanced level of security cooperation between Rabat and Paris, reaffirming both parties’ commitment to continue working together to ensure the security and stability of their countries within a strategic partnership characterized by continuity and development.
