Bouari Announces Adoption of a Digital System for Counting Sheep and Goats to Ensure Transparency in Support and Monitor Livestock Wealth

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water, and Forests, Ahmed Bouari, announced the adoption of a new digital system for counting female sheep and goats. This initiative aims to modernize the management of livestock and enhance the effectiveness of support directed to farmers. He confirmed that this initiative is part of the national strategy to achieve food sovereignty and improve operations within the agricultural sector.

Bouari presented the details of this system to the Production Sectors Committee, which relies on digital identification technology through electronic tags that employ radio frequency identification. He explained that each tag is equipped with two serial numbers—one visible and the other hidden—and is made from plastic to ensure durability and ease of use.

The minister indicated that these tags will be used during sales to accurately track each livestock head, thus preventing any attempts at manipulation or reuse of tags. He highlighted that the accompanying information system is designed to cover all stages of counting and tagging while ensuring data security, with the ability to trace it from start to finish, reducing errors and increasing operational accuracy.

Bouari added that the system employs electronic comparison techniques and encryption to protect the data related to counting, which facilitates the electronic identification of female sheep and goats without repetitive manual intervention, enhancing the speed of the process and minimizing error margins.

The minister also confirmed that each breeder is digitally linked to their national identification card and bank account to ensure the accuracy of the information provided and to precisely identify the beneficiaries. He stressed that this system allows for the creation of an accurate and reliable database that can be referenced in monitoring and tracking operations.

Bouari revealed that field teams are being equipped with portable electronic readers and aerial devices to remotely capture data, significantly improving on-ground tracking processes and saving time and effort.
