A primary court in Tetouan has sentenced two students to 25 years in prison for the premeditated murder of their classmate at the Mohamed Zarqaoui High School in Chefchaouen.

The sentence was divided between 15 years for the first defendant and 10 years for the second, both of whom are from the Ben Razine region. The incident involved the murder of a second-year high school student in the Human Sciences stream.

The crime occurred on March 25, when the victim was fatally stabbed with a knife near the school grounds, resulting in severe internal bleeding. He was taken to the regional hospital in Chefchaouen, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Royal Gendarmerie began an investigation under the supervision of the public prosecutor, which led to the arrest of the main suspect on the same day, along with another student suspected of involvement. The murder weapon was also recovered.

Following their appearance before the public prosecutor at the Tetouan Court of Appeals, the two suspects were remanded in the local prison in Soumail, pending the conclusion of the investigation and subsequent referral to the criminal chamber that issued the ruling in accordance with the law.

The incident has reignited discussions about school violence and the easy access to knives around educational institutions, amid calls for increased oversight and enhanced educational guidance within schools.
