Unemployment Rate at 6.2% in the Euro Area

The unemployment rate in the Eurozone remained stable at 6.2 percent of the total workforce in March, a level unchanged since December, according to Eurostat’s announcement on Friday.

This figure marks the lowest level since the European statistics office began registering this data in April 1998 for countries using the single currency.

After reporting an unemployment rate of 6.1 percent for February, this figure has been revised upward by 0.1 percentage points.

Over the course of a year, the unemployment rate in March saw a decline of 0.3 percentage points across the twenty Eurozone countries.

In the European Union as a whole, the unemployment rate has remained steady since December at 5.8 percent, its historical low.

In March, the number of unemployed individuals in the 27 EU countries reached approximately 12.9 million people, including 10.8 million in the Eurozone.

In France, the unemployment rate stood at 7.3 percent, down 0.1 points from February, according to Eurostat data. This rate is lower at 3.5 percent in Germany and 6 percent in Italy.

Among the EU member states, the lowest unemployment rates were recorded in the Czech Republic (2.6 percent) and Poland (2.7 percent), while the highest rates were in Spain (10.9 percent), Finland (9.1 percent), Greece (9 percent), and Sweden (8.8 percent).
