US President Donald Trump commented on the video that sparked widespread controversy on social media, in which Brigitte, the wife of French President Emmanuel Macron, appeared to push his face as they disembarked from a plane during an official visit to the Vietnamese capital Hanoi.
During a press conference at the White House, Trump was asked by journalists if he had any marital advice to offer Macron. He paused for a moment before replying with a smile, “Be sure to keep the door closed,” describing the incident as “not good.”
Trump added, “That was not good. No. I spoke to him, and he’s fine; they’re fine. They’re really nice people,” noting that he and his wife Melania had spent a lot of time with the French president and his wife during several official events.
For his part, French President Emmanuel Macron downplayed the significance of the video, telling reporters after its release, “There’s a clip showing me joking with my wife, and somehow it turns into what seems like a global geological disaster, where people start weaving theories about it.”
